The Vertical Shaft Impact Crusher (VSI) operates based on the "rock-on-rock" or "rock-on-steel" crushing principle, depending on the configuration.

 

Material enters the center of the rotor, which spins at high speed.

The rotor then accelerates the material outward through centrifugal force, launching it against a stationary anvil ring (rock-on-steel) or a bed of accumulated material (rock-on-rock).

The intense impact breaks the material into smaller, cubical particles. The finely crushed material is then discharged from the bottom of the machine.
